Jin Akino’s Photo Book Publication Launch Event and Exhibition

Following the ceremony held in June at the World Heritage – Registan in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, to commemorate photographer Jin Akino’s photo book “TRADITIONAL MOMENT IN UZBEKISTAN” published in spring 2019 held a photo exhibition and event in Tokyo. In addition to photo exhibitions, many events to introduce the charms of Uzbekistan including talk shows were held.

Photo Exhibition
A large number of photographs conveying the culture of Uzbekistan are exhibited, including traditional architecture featured in the photo book, natural scenery, cuisine, street corner snapshots, and people.

Talk event
No reservation required/free of charge
Due to space constraints, only 12 seats will be available for each session. If there are a large number of participants, some will have to stand. Thank you for your understanding in advance.
In addition to the talk event below, we also plan to screen a PR video produced by the Uzbekistan government.

Lecture about the culture and people from a different perspective than the general information in guidebooks, including my experience of staying in the area as a photographer.

(2) <14:45-15:00> The charm of Uzbekistan’s food culture / Dilafruzkhon Abdullaeva(Uzbek food expert)

(3) <15:15-15:30> Introducing the Uzbek Women’s Independence Support Project by Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology / Yoshiko Kawabata(Associate Professor, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology)

(4) <16:00-16:30> Tips for individual travel in Uzbekistan / Jin Akino
Uzbekistan’s travel environment is changing to the extent that travel information from a year ago is now outdated. the photographer will talk about travel know-how and things to keep in mind, such as how to use transportation, for those who are traveling on their own to save money.

August 25th, 2019

(3) <14:30-15:00> Secret story of photo book production – Collaboration of Japan and Uzbekistan – / Jin Akino
Introducing the story leading up to completion, including the cover design created in collaboration with a local designer, and reporting on the on-site ceremony after completion.

(4) <15:30-16:00> Photo book work explanation and shooting episode / Jin Akino
While viewing the works published in the photo book on a screen, the photographer will talk about the production and shooting process.
